Manchester hosts the final round of the 2006/7 Track Cycling World Cup Classics
We are pleased to be back at the Manchester Velodrome for what will be final exciting round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics.Manchester is one of four major cities on three continents hosting the 2006-07 UCI Track World Cup. The Grand Prix-style competition ranks only behind the World Championships and Olympic Games in prestige.The Manchester round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup will take place on 23-25 February 2007.
Competitors from over 30 nations will be bidding for individual and team titles.Points gained in the UCI Track World Cup have a major bearing on qualification for the World Championships. Each round comprises 14 disciplines – eight for men and seven for women. Competition is spread over three days.
Events range in distance from the 500 metres women’s time trial to the 40-kilometre men’s Madison.Round one will be held in Sydney from November 17-19, 2006; followed by Moscow, December 15-17, 2006; Los Angeles, January, 19-21, 2007 and Manchester, February 23-25, 2007.A record number of television viewers saw the 2004 UCI Track World Cup. Viewing figures more than doubled compared with the previous year, rising from 11 million viewers in 2003 to 26.5 million in 2004.
